Deborah H. Wayne
Deborah H. Wayne attended Boston
University where she received a Bachelor of
Arts cum laude; the University of Grenoble,
Grenoble, France; and received her law
degree from Pace University School of Law.
In addition, she received a certificate in
Public Relations from New York University.
She is a collaborative professional,
attorney and mediator. She is admitted to
the New York and Connecticut Bars. Ms. Wayne
is a member of the New York State Bar
Association, the Westchester County Bar
Association, and a member of its Trusts and
Estates and Family Law Section, as well as
the Westchester Women’s Bar Association.
Ms. Wayne is also a member of the
following organizations: the New York
Association of Collaborative Professionals,
The International Academy of Collaborative
Practitioners, former President of the Board
of Trustees of the Harrison Public Library,
Harrison, New York, former
Secretary/Treasurer of the Board, and a
former member of the Domestic Violence Pro
Bono Panel in Westchester County. In
addition, Deborah is a trained mediator and
works as a non-coercive neutral to help
parties resolve disputes and negotiate an
agreement as an alternative to litigation.
Deborah participated in the 2005 and 2006
Harvard Negotiation Insight Initiative in
Cambridge, Massachusetts. She was also
trained in mediation in 2004 by the Center
for Mediation, in New York City and
volunteers her time on a regular basis as a
certified mediator in the areas of custody
and visitation for the New York court system
through CLUSTER. She has completed training
programs in parent-teen mediation,
restorative justice and in Special Education
advocacy sponsored by the University of
Connecticut and the A.J. Pappanikou Center
for Developmental Disabilities. Deborah has
lectured on family law, collaborative law
and conflict resolution at various
locations, including: Pace University School
of Law; St. John’s University School of Law;
and the Institute for Senior Action/Jewish
Association for Services for the Aged.
She is an Adjunct Professor teaching
Collaborative Law at Pace University School
of Law for the Fall 2008 Semester. In
addition, she has served as a facilitator
for mediation training programs conducted by
the Center for Mediation in New York and the
New York State Office of Court
Administration. Deborah is a graduate of
Leadership Westchester, a community
leadership program.
Prior to obtaining her law degree, Ms.
Wayne served for five years with the United
Nations in New York as a Public Information
Coordinator. She has been certified for
proficiency in French and Spanish by the
United Nations. Ms. Wayne joined the law
firm of Jones Garneau, LLP in June 2002,
after spending more than ten years in
private practice in Westchester County. She
devotes her professional time to real estate
and family law matters, including the
practice of Collaborative Family Law
(resolution of family law issues through a
cooperative dispute resolution process) as
well as Trusts & Estates matters, including
asset preservation planning, supplemental
needs trusts, and planning for the elderly
(Elder Law). The Hon. Francis A. Nicolai,
Administrative Judge of the Ninth Judicial
District, Supreme Court, has previously
recognized Deborah for her contribution to
pro bono legal services in the community.
She has also previously served as a local
volunteer representative for Boston
University, as a volunteer for the “Midnight
Run” for the homeless, the New York Marathon
as a translator, and she served for several
years as a Moot Court Judge for the Pace
University School of Law Moot Court
Competitions. Deborah is married and has two
sons who share her interests in the arts and
in sports. |
