Steven R. Sundheim
Steven R. Sundheim obtained his B.A.
(with honors) at New York University in 1980
and then attended the Benjamin N. Cardozo
School of Law where he was on the Law Review
and obtained his J.D in 1984. He began his
legal career at a national law firm based in
New York City where he supervised and
personally defended hundreds of cases all
over the USA for the manufacturers of a very
wide range of products including numerous
recreational marine products such as
speedboats and related equipment. He also
provided coverage opinions for insurers
based in the USA, England, Japan and South
Korea. His practice included being admitted
pro hac vice in numerous catastrophic injury
and death cases throughout the United States
and acting as trial counsel in association
with local counsel in Alabama, California,
Pennsylvania and Texas. He won a defense
verdict in the first case in the United
States ever brought claiming high speed
boats should be equipped with seatbelts in
Federal Court in Philadelphia.
He subsequently worked at two other long
established New York City based law firms
defending all sorts of clients and cases
before establishing his own firm in 1996. He
was subsequently a name partner with the
firm of Spitzer, Sundheim & Brey, LLC
handling civil litigation with a strong
emphasis on employment law and a variety of
commercial matters. In 2002 he formed a firm
- Steven R. Sundheim & Associates, LLC based
in White Plains and Stamford, Connecticut
which at its peak had twelve attorneys all
working directly for him in a virtually pure
litigation practice for cases all over the
New York City area and surrounding counties.
Mr. Sundheim's firm handled a very wide
variety of legal matters sent to it by
various insurers and self insured companies
and private clients, establishing a strong
reputation for successful outcomes and
focusing on the providing of detailed
analysis and reporting to its corporate
clients as to risk assessment, suggested
strategies and cost-benefit decision making.
Mr. Sundheim has personally negotiated and
resolved thousands of legal matters in his
career, both in the area of personal injury
tort litigation and property and commercial
claims. He has expertise in contract
interpretation and drafting and has advised
many business owners as well as individuals
in non-litigation matters in addition to his
work as a litigation/trial attorney. He has
represented countless property owners,
general contractors and subcontractors in
New York Labor Law cases as well as
representing doctors, medical laboratories,
architects and engineers
He is admitted to the New York and Connecticut
State Courts as well as the United States
District Courts for the Southern, Eastern
and Northern Districts of New York as well
as federal court in Connecticut. He has been
a member of numerous bar associations
including the American Bar Association, New
York Bar Association, Maritime Law
Association, American Trial Lawyers and the
Westchester Bar Association. He has lectured
for the Continuing Legal Education for the
New York State Bar teaching practical skills
on the subjects of expert discovery and how
to cross examine and present expert
witnesses at trial and has been a moot court
judge for students at Pace Law School in
White Plains.
He currently practices in a number of
areas, most notably litigation defense for
insurers and private companies and
employment law on behalf of both employees
and employers. His areas of practice also
include representing individuals and
businesses in a wide variety of commercial
matters.
His personal interests include performing
close up magic, scuba diving, skiing, biking
and hiking. He is married and resides with
his wife, Candice, who is a psychoanalyst in
Rye, New York. Mr. Sundheim joined the firm
of Jones Garneau as a partner as of July 1,
2008. |
